The best Omegle alternatives in 2026

Omegle closed in November 2023 and the crowd went in eight different directions. This is every serious Omegle alternative still running, ranked, with the parts each one is bad at written down next to the parts it is good at. Kismaro is first because we built it — so the method is written out below and our own weaknesses are in our own entry, where you can check them.

The eight Omegle alternatives, ranked

Everything below is free to start. The order comes from the six criteria in how we ranked these, and every entry was checked in September 2026.

  1. 1

    Kismaro

Best for a real age check

The closest thing to old Omegle in feel — press a button, meet a stranger, no profile to build — with the two things Omegle never had. Your date of birth is confirmed once on its own screen and can never be edited, and in video mode your camera has to actually show your face. Voice is a full mode with its own queue rather than a toggle, which matters on a weak connection.

    Pros

    • Free end to end — no paid tier holding back the country filter or the queue
    • Age confirmed on a separate screen, not a checkbox, and never editable afterwards
    • Face check on video ends calls from a ceiling, a photo or a looping recording
    • Country filter works in both directions, not as a hint
    • Text, voice and video are three separate queues
    • Nothing is recorded — there is no archive of conversations

    Cons

    • Fewer people online than anyone else here. We are new, and a narrow country filter at a quiet hour can find nobody
    • You cannot start without signing in — that is the price of the age gate being real
    • No mobile app. It runs in a phone browser, which is not the same thing
  2. 2

    OmeTV

Best for finding someone at any hour

The largest crowd of anything in this list and the default answer for most people. Country and gender filters, a Couple mode, built-in translation between languages, and proper apps on both stores. It also has a social layer — photos, followers — which is either the point or the annoyance depending on what you came for. There is a longer comparison here.

    Pros

    • By far the biggest pool, so you are matched in seconds at any hour
    • Country and gender filters, plus a Couple mode
    • Built-in translation, which makes cross-language matches work
    • Real apps on Google Play and the App Store

    Cons

    • Age is a checkbox, which is the exact thing the Omegle lawsuit was about
    • Nothing stops a camera that is not pointed at a person
    • The profile and follower layer pulls it away from being anonymous
    • Heavily moderated by report volume, so bans can feel arbitrary
  3. 3

    Chatroulette

    Best-known name after Omegle

Older than Omegle's shutdown by a decade and still running. Video only — there is no text-only queue — and it leans on automated screening of the camera feed rather than on knowing who anyone is. If you want the 2010 experience with fewer surprises, this is it. Side by side with Kismaro.

    Pros

    • A big, long-established crowd
    • Starts instantly with no sign-up at all
    • Automated screening of video, which cuts the worst of it
    • Country filtering available

    Cons

    • Video only — no text queue and no voice-only mode
    • No age verification beyond a confirmation click
    • The free tier is noticeably worse than the paid one
    • Interface has aged and the ad load is heavy
  4. 4

    Emerald Chat

    Best for matching on interests

The one that took Omegle's interest matching seriously. Type what you want to talk about and it pairs you with someone who typed something similar, which produces better conversations than pure chance. Group rooms as well as one-to-one. Compared with Kismaro.

    Pros

    • Interest matching is the best in this list
    • Text and video, plus group rooms
    • Free tier is genuinely usable
    • Reputation system discourages the worst behaviour

    Cons

    • Karma and gender filters sit behind a subscription
    • Age is self-declared
    • Smaller than OmeTV, so interest matching can stall at quiet hours
    • Moderation quality swings depending on the time of day
  5. 5

    Monkey

Best if you want an app, not a tab

App-first and built around short, fast video matches — the format that came out of the teen-app era rather than out of Omegle. The polish is real and the mobile experience is the best here. That heritage is also why its age problem is the most discussed of anything in this list. Compared with Kismaro.

    Pros

    • The best mobile experience of anything here
    • Fast, short matches that suit a phone
    • Large and active user base
    • Add-as-friend if a conversation goes well

    Cons

    • App-first — the browser experience is an afterthought
    • Has repeatedly drawn attention over underage users
    • Sign-up asks for more about you than the others do
    • Key features sit behind a paid tier
  6. 6

    Camsurf

    Best lightweight option

Deliberately plain: open it, pick a country or a language, start. Moderated, has apps on both stores, and does not try to be a social network on the side. Nothing here is best in class, but very little about it is annoying either.

    Pros

    • Starts with no account
    • Country and language filters on the free tier
    • Apps on both stores
    • Moderated, with a visible policy against nudity

    Cons

    • Small crowd compared with OmeTV
    • No text-only or voice-only mode
    • Age is a checkbox
    • Removing ads and unlocking filters needs the paid tier
  7. 7

    Tinychat

Best for group rooms, not random pairs

Not really a random chat site at all — it is rooms. You make one or join one and several people are on camera together. Worth knowing about because it is the answer for the half of Omegle's audience that wanted a hangout rather than a slot machine.

    Pros

    • Video, voice and text in one place
    • Rooms persist, so you can go back to the same people
    • Long-established and stable
    • Free tier is enough to use it properly

    Cons

    • Not random one-to-one matching — a different thing entirely
    • Rooms need moderating by whoever owns them, and often are not
    • Ad-free and extras need a subscription
    • Dated interface
  8. 8

    Uhmegle

Closest copy of the old Omegle

One of a group of clones that appeared within weeks of the shutdown, copying the layout, the wording and the two-queue structure. If what you miss is literally the old page, this is the nearest thing. It also inherited the problem that closed the original — worth reading why before you use one.

    Pros

    • Text and video queues exactly as Omegle had them
    • No sign-up, no app, no upsell
    • Interest tags work the way the original did
    • Free

    Cons

    • Moderation is minimal, which is the whole problem
    • No age verification of any kind
    • Clone sites appear and vanish without warning
    • No country filter and no app

What Kismaro keeps from Omegle, and what it changes

The same: press a button, get a stranger. No profile to build, no photos to upload, nobody to add. Text, voice and video each with its own queue. Skip whenever you like, in a browser tab, with nothing to install.

Deliberately not the same: Omegle had no age check worth the name and that is close to the whole reason it is gone. Here you confirm you are 18 or over, once, on its own screen, and it cannot be edited afterwards. In video chat your camera has to show your face. Both would have been unthinkable on Omegle and both exist because of what happened to it.

How we ranked these Omegle alternatives

We scored every platform on six things: how fast you are actually matched at a normal hour, whether it is free end to end or puts the country filter behind a subscription, how seriously it checks age, what stops a camera that is not showing a person, how many ways you can chat — text, voice, video — and how well it works on a phone.

Kismaro comes first on four of those six and loses two of them outright. We lose on speed of matching, because OmeTV has a decade of crowd on us and no amount of engineering closes that this year. We lose on the phone, because we have no app and OmeTV, Monkey and Camsurf all do. If matching in under two seconds at three in the morning is what you want, the honest answer is OmeTV and it is on this page saying so.

What we will not do is score a platform on something we did not check. Features in this category change without announcements, so every claim above is a durable one — what the product is, not what a promotion said this week — and all of it was checked in September 2026. If something here is out of date, tell us and it gets fixed.

Compare them one at a time

Each of these goes into one platform properly rather than in a paragraph: Kismaro vs OmeTV, vs Chatroulette, vs Monkey and vs Emerald Chat. There is also a single table with all of them side by side.

If you are narrowing by one thing rather than by brand, there are pages for that too: the best Omegle alternative by what you actually want from it, the free ones and what free really means, and which are actually safe.

What to check before you trust any of them

Press report on something and see if anything happens. On a serious site a human reads it and you get told the outcome. On the others the button is decoration.

Find out what the free tier really includes. Several sites here are free to start and then put the country filter — or being matched within a reasonable time at all — behind a subscription. That is not the same as free.

Check how it treats age. A checkbox is not a check. This is not a technicality: the design decision to pair strangers with no idea who they were is the precise thing a US court refused to protect under Section 230, and it is why Omegle no longer exists.

See whether it works in a browser or keeps pushing an app. An app can ask for permissions a web page cannot, and once installed it keeps them.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best Omegle alternative in 2026?

It depends what you want. OmeTV has the most people online and is matched fastest. Emerald Chat has the best interest matching. Monkey has the best mobile app. Kismaro is the only one here with a real age check and a face requirement on video, but it is newer and has fewer people.

Are these Omegle alternatives free?

All eight are free to start. Several put the country filter, gender filter or ad-free use behind a subscription. Kismaro has no paid tier at all, so nothing is held back.

Which Omegle alternative is the safest?

The one that checks who you are before pairing you. Kismaro confirms a date of birth on its own screen, never editable afterwards, and requires your camera to show a face in video mode. Every other site in this list treats age as a checkbox.

Is there an Omegle alternative with no sign up?

Yes — OmeTV, Chatroulette, Emerald Chat, Camsurf and Uhmegle all start with no account. Kismaro does not, because an age gate you can skip is not an age gate. That is a real trade-off and it costs us visitors.

Why is Kismaro ranked first on its own list?

Because we wrote it, which is why the six criteria are written out and why our own entry lists a smaller crowd, a required sign-in and no mobile app as its cons. On matching speed and on mobile, OmeTV beats us and this page says so.

Is Omegle coming back?

The domain and trademark changed hands in 2026 and omegle.com now shows a holding page rather than an error. No relaunch has happened, and anyone stating confidently that it will or will not is guessing.
