Kismaro

Kismaro vs the Monkey app

Monkey is the most polished thing in this category on a phone, and it comes out of the teen-app era rather than out of Omegle. That heritage explains both what it is good at and the question that follows it around.

What Monkey does better

The phone experience. It is app-first and it is genuinely well made — fast, short video matches, an interface designed for a thumb. Kismaro has no app at all, and a browser tab is not the same thing.

Carrying on afterwards. Monkey lets you add someone when a conversation goes well. On Kismaro, when you press Next the person is gone and cannot follow you. That is by design, but it is genuinely a limitation if you wanted to keep talking.

The crowd. Large and active, particularly on mobile.

Where Kismaro is different

It is 18+ and the check is real. Monkey's age policy is the most discussed of anything in this category, and the app has drawn repeated attention over underage users. Kismaro takes a date of birth on its own screen, once, never editable afterwards — which is the specific thing that ended Omegle in court by its absence.

Nothing to install. Kismaro is a web page. It asks for a camera through the browser and that permission stops when you close the tab. An installed app can ask for contacts, location and notifications, and it keeps them.

You give us almost nothing. Monkey's sign-up wants more about you than a random chat needs. Kismaro wants a date of birth and nothing else — no email address required, no profile, no photos (what that means).

A face check on camera. Your browser confirms a face is there every few seconds, so a photo or a looping recording ends the call.

Voice and text as real modes. Monkey is video. Voice and text are separate queues here.

Which one should you use

Use Monkey if you want an app rather than a tab, you want to be able to add people you got on with, and a polished phone interface is the thing that decides it.

Use Kismaro if you want an adults-only room where the age check is more than a button, if you would rather not install anything, or if you want voice as a mode of its own.

If neither is right, the ranked list has six more, and OmeTV has apps as well as the biggest crowd.

Frequently asked questions

Is Monkey app safe?

It is app-first, moderated, and has drawn repeated attention over underage users, which is the main criticism of it. Its age policy is self-declared, as it is on most sites in this category.

Is there a Monkey alternative that works in a browser?

Kismaro runs entirely in a browser on a phone or a computer, with nothing to install and no permissions beyond the camera and microphone the tab asks for.

Does Kismaro let you add people like Monkey does?

No. When you press Next the other person is gone and cannot contact you again. That is deliberate, and it is a genuine limitation if you wanted to keep talking.

Is Monkey free?

It is free to start and sells a paid tier with extra features. Kismaro has no paid tier.

What is the minimum age for Kismaro?

Eighteen. A date of birth is confirmed once on its own screen and can never be edited afterwards.
