Free Omegle alternatives, and where free stops
Every site in this category calls itself free and almost all of them mean free to start. The interesting question is what happens twenty minutes in, when the country filter turns out to be a subscription and the queue gets slower the longer you refuse to pay. Here is what each one actually holds back.

The three ways a free random chat site is not free
The filter paywall. The site is free, but choosing a country or a gender is not. This is the most common one, and it is effective because the filter is the feature people want most after about ten minutes of use.
The queue paywall. Nothing is locked, but paying moves you up the queue. Free users are not told this is happening — the site just feels slow, and the fix is on a pricing page.
The ad wall. Free includes an advert between every match, sometimes a full-screen one. Removing them is the subscription. This is the most honest of the three, because you can see what you are being charged.

Kismaro has no paid tier at all
There is no subscription page, because there is no subscription. The country filter, interest matching, voice mode and the queue are the same for everybody, and nothing gets faster if you pay, because there is nothing to pay.
This is worth saying plainly because "free" on this page means the whole product, not a trial of it. The trade is elsewhere and it is written down: fewer people are online here than on OmeTV, and you have to sign in before you start.
Free does not mean anonymous, and the two get confused
A site can be free and still build a profile of you. The paid ones often collect less, because they have a business model that is not you.
What matters is what is kept. Kismaro records no conversations — not the video, not the audio, not the text. There is no archive to leak because there is no archive. What that does and does not cover is set out on anonymous video chat and in the privacy policy.
What to check before you trust a free site
Look for the pricing page before you start. If there is one, read it. It tells you which features are about to stop working.
Use the country filter early. If it is going to ask for money, it asks within the first few matches.
Press report on something. Free sites with no revenue often have no moderation either, and the report button is where that shows. On a serious site a person reads it.
Be suspicious of a free clone. Several Omegle clones appeared within weeks of the shutdown, cost nothing, moderate nothing and disappear without warning. Free is not the problem there; nobody being responsible for it is.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a completely free Omegle alternative?
Kismaro has no paid tier at all, so the country filter, interest matching, voice mode and the queue are the same for everyone. Camsurf offers country filtering free but sells an ad-free tier.
Do free Omegle alternatives charge for the country filter?
Several do. Emerald Chat puts gender and reputation filters behind a subscription, and OmeTV and Chatroulette both hold parts of filtering back for paying users.
Why do free chat sites get slower over time?
On some sites paying moves you up the queue, so free users are matched more slowly without being told that is what is happening. Kismaro has one queue for everybody.
Is a free random chat site safe?
Free is not the problem — moderation is. Some free sites have no one reading reports at all. Press report on something early and see whether anything happens.
Does Kismaro need a credit card?
No. There is no payment of any kind anywhere on the site.
