Anonymous video chat, and what anonymous really means
Every random chat site calls itself anonymous. Almost none of them explain what they mean by it. Here is exactly what is and is not known about you on Kismaro, including the parts that are less comfortable.

What the other person learns
Your country, and whatever you choose to tell them. Not your name, not your email, not your address, not your IP address. There is no profile for them to open and nothing to click through to.
When the conversation ends there is no way for them to reach you again. No friend request, no message, no history.
What we hold
An account identifier, your email if you signed in with one, the date of birth you declared once, your IP address, and a device identifier. We keep a record that a conversation happened — when, how long, which mode — for seven days.
We do not keep the conversation. Video, voice and text are not recorded or stored anywhere, so there is no archive to subpoena, leak or sell.
You can chat without giving us an email
Signing in anonymously creates an account with no email address attached. You still confirm you are over 18, because the law requires an age gate and we would rather have one that works.
Choosing Google or an email link means your settings come back next time and you can recover the account. Anonymous means neither.
What no site can promise
Anyone can point a phone at their screen. No video service on earth can prevent that, and any that claims otherwise is lying to you. Assume anything you show could be captured.
We also cannot make you anonymous to your own network. Your internet provider can see that you connected to us, exactly as they can see every other site you visit.
How anonymous do you actually need to be
Most people asking for anonymity want one specific thing: that the person they are talking to cannot find them afterwards. That is fully true here — no profile, no username to search, no way back once the conversation ends.
A smaller number want to be unknown to the service as well. That is partly possible: sign in anonymously and we never learn an email address. We still hold an IP and a device id, because those are what make a ban enforceable, and a site that cannot ban anyone becomes unusable within a week.
Things that quietly identify you
Your background. Post, a window with a recognisable view, a framed certificate, a school uniform. People have been located from less.
Your voice and your accent narrow a country to a region. That is usually fine, but it is worth knowing it is information.
Repeating the same details to different people. Nothing you say in one conversation reaches another — but if you tell twenty people your first name, your city and where you work, you have published it, one piece at a time.
Frequently asked questions
Is it really anonymous?
To the person you are talking to, yes — they get your country and nothing else. To us, partly: we hold an account id, an IP and a device id, because that is what makes banning someone possible.
Do you record the video?
No. Nothing is recorded. Media travels directly between the two people wherever possible, and through a relay that forwards without storing when it cannot.
Can I use it without an email address?
Yes, sign in anonymously. You confirm your age and nothing else.
Can I delete my data?
Yes. Write to us and we will delete the account. We keep a record of a ban even after deletion, because otherwise deleting an account would undo one.
